Family conversations about health are important.
Purpose of Research Study
Late stage cancer diagnoses are prevalent in Vietnamese Americas, much of which could be detected early if people get screened at the right age at the right time. The purpose of this study to increase awareness about cancer prevention among Vietnamese family members using social media group chats. This study is meant to understand how we can use young adults as Family Health Advocates to facilitate conversations around cancer prevention behavior and screening for colorectal and HPV-related cancers. We hope that by having normative conversations about cancer screening, we can empower family members to get screened early and on time.

Role of Family Health Advocate (FHA)
The role of the family health advocate is to: Educate family members on cancer screening topics, engage family members in conversations about cancer prevention, and empower them to get screened/ participate in prevention behaviors. Your main role is to facilitate conversations around the screenings and point family members to resources to understand these topics. The message templates are there to help you educate, engage, and empower your family members, but facilitating the conversation is your main challenge.

Study Outcomes
What we hope to understand better
Process Evaluation
These outcomes are meant to help us understand how the process contributes to the success or failure of an intervention. This will help us evaluate how to make the intervention better next time. This part includes feedback from you (FHAs), the family members (via the survey), and the researchers.
|
Outcomes Evaluation
These outcomes are meant to help us understand whether our intervention made any impact. To be transparent with our research process, we will be measuring family member engagement (through screenshots), knowledge and attitudes towards screening post-intervention, and whether family members are empowered to make an appointment or actually pursue screening. This information will be collected in the post-intervention survey.
